Blog Through The Bible

Life is a journey from this temporary, earthly home to an eternal one. I’ve longed much to have the Word of God written on my heart as I read through the entire text of the Bible in one year. It is one of those things on my spiritual “To Do” List that I still have left undone.

PROPOSAL: Commit to reading daily Three Chapters A Day-365 Days of Scriptures- individually, and writing a weekly post about what God is doing through your reading. Some of you may want to take some extra time to dig in and word study a bit, but let’s try to limit our posts to what we read and what God is saying to us through Holy Spirit and His Word.

Anyone who completes 50 out of 52 week of the Bible Reading journey will be entered to win a Brand New Spirit-Filled-Life Bible (NKJV) by Thomas Nelson Publishers. How will I know-You’ll check in here with a comment of course.

Boundaries in any good relationship are essential – so let’s do some boundary setting – what do you say?

  • Boundary #1: Bathe yourself in prayer. 1 John 1:9 tells us that we are to confess our transgressions to God and He is faithful and just to not only complete that forgiving work He began on the cross, but to also cleanse and purify us from all unrighteousness. If you don’t know if you have anything in your heart that needs confession then ask the Holy Spirit to show you. After you’ve confessed, appropriate the promised forgiveness and cleansing to yourself and ask Him to speak a word to you as you read.

  • Boundary #2: When you pick up the Scriptures lay aside what you already KNOW, and observe how the words come to life as you read them from your heart. God’s Word is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It will cut us to our heart if we let it.A living Word will always bring something new to the table. Read these words like you’ve never read them before in Your life. Listen for the rhema words of God to ring in your heart. Words just for you. Ask God to begin writing these words on your heart.

  • Boundary #3: Make an appointment each day to meet with God and each week to meet with us. If you get behind, show up anyway. In Mary Kay we used to say that if you have a bad week you need the meeting and if you have a good week the meeting needs you. The truth we’re all busy with a “To Do” List a mile long. God has shown me lately that we have room in our lives for what we make time for – will you make time for this?

  • Boundary #4: Let’s work hard to honor one another. A culture of honor applies mercy rather than judgment, and offers encouragement in love rather than correction and discipline. It balances the scales – so to speak. I believe this is what Jesus meant in Matthew 3:8 when He said, “I desire mercy rather than sacrifice.” And, again in the Old Testament when Micah prophesied, “Do justice and love mercy.” Seek to walk justly in my own life while loving mercy for the lives of others. Because honor values the person – let’s not offer counsel unless it is asked for, and let’s not correct openly – but do discuss what the posts and comments are doing in your own heart. Let’s do that, shall we?

  • Boundary #5: If you have a blog – write about this there! This will help you to link your post back here. Be sure to leave a comment and use to direct us to your post each week.

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Iโ€™m going to try to do this one AND the one weโ€™re beginning at church. Husband was brain injured on July 10 (high-severe), and he has expressed the willingness to join the Bible-in-a-Year Sunday School at our church. Which means I am joining too. And, no Iโ€™m NOT complaining! I WANT to do both this blog, which is a fabulous idea, by the way, and the one at church. YOURS is starting sooner! They should be starting this Sunday but will have to begin next; so if, IF itโ€™s the same reading plan, Iโ€™ll have a jump on it, plus get to meet a whole NEW group of believers here on this blog, which is really exciting!
My favorite verse for quite a while now: โ€œI am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by Me.โ€ John 14:6

  12. Dena’ –

I’m totally praying for your family. It was just two years ago around this time that I felt the enemy had our number but good. The Lord totally turned it around and He did it in me. Jump on in… The post with the daily reading assignments will be up tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Blessings.

  13. Sallye,

I’m so glad you’re joining in. May the Lord richly bless you. I may be claiming that Scripture for myself soon. The one I’ve been enthralled with lately is “But I am like a flourishing olive tree in the hous of God; I trust in God’s faithful love forever and ever.” Psalm 52:8 HCSB

  14. Sallye, San Angelo TX. favorite scripture Psalms 57:1 Be merciful to me, O God be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You, and in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge. Until these calamities have passed by. NKJV
