This painting is one of a series of mixed-media features called Paper Dolls. Paper Dolls are figures drawn onto watercolor paper and then dressed up with acrylic paints before being fixed to an acrylic background on canvas.
Michelle draws her inspiration in art from her time connecting to God’s heart through intimacy, devotion, and prayer. She lives to help others connect to His heart through creative expression.
Into Marvelous Light came to life in less than 24 hours as Michelle prayed over the annual women’s conference at church in 2015. She missed the last prayer meeting as she sketched out and painted the paper elements of the picture in just a few hours. The next night, during the after-party, she developed the background of the painting, working live and visiting with conference attendees throughout the night.
The logo and theme for the conference was “FREE,” with a black and white striped background sporting a Gold Butterfly emblazoned with the word Free on it. As she painted, she heard the Lord whisper, “My Word is truly a lamp to your feet and a light to your path.” She arrived home late and assembled the painting, fixing the doll onto the canvas with heavy coats of gloss varnish. She had it back at the church the next morning on display for the attendees to see. As she sat with it over those hours, she sensed the Lord saying the painting represented the transformation of the women’s hearts who attended the conference that weekend.
